S83R vs PIG
December 17th, 2009 I like it when something in the local news catches my eye and makes me want to write about it. Especially when it has to do with some angry teen and a cop. ![]() I just happened to be browsing the dull katu.com website when I found this great article about a downtown scuffle between a sk8er dude and a cop (http://www.katu.com/news/local/79472442.html). Now before I throw my two cents I headed over to the super sk8er internet headquarters (www.skateboarding.com) and would like to recite and respond to some great quotes from some brilliant people… and I couldn’t help but laugh.
We know it’s not a crime (and quite frankly don’t care, I don’t know anyone who hates skateboarding but I know plenty of people who hate stubborn crybaby skateboarders), I wish people would use “skateboarders whine and cry like little babies when they are annoying the shit out of everyone around them.”
By the way, pioneer courthouse square security guards are not the worst ever in the USA. It just happens your friend decided to be an emotional kid and try to show the cops they are out of line (no matter what the outcome of this story was, people would still whine about not being allowed to skate in certain areas). Everyone knows you don’t hit cops. A cops job is to simply deal with people all day, telling them what to do. If everyone had the right to just get in fights with cops then what would be the point of having them? You have to remember cops also deal with dirty bums, drunk idiots and creepy pedophiles.
Grow up.
This whole thing is a joke to me, how kids just get such an emotional high because they somehow want to think the police are after all the skaters!!! First of all, the video is 26 seconds long and the only thing you see is the actual fight. Second of all, no one actually knows the real reason for the altercation, it could have been anything but all these kids want to believe it happened their way. I do believe there is such a thing as police brutality, I have seen police officers go out of line but I’ve also seen (majority of the case) what can push a police officer over that line. A lot of kids on that website also fail to realize the kid does swing his skateboard at the cop first. He clearly instigates some kind of fight and makes the mistake by trying to play hero when he doesn’t need to. Most likely the true scenario was the cop told the kid to leave, kid doesn’t leave. Cop then approaches again, kid decides to stand up for himself (when not needed) and gets in an altercation with a cop (his job is to uphold laws, bummer but it’s the reality of the situation. If you don’t agree then go somewhere else). Altercation accelerates to the fight, all sk8er kids blame the police and claim the kid as some kind of saint and hero. Since the kid didn’t use common sense on how to handle himself, he got what was coming to him (this is purely by my assumption because from my own perspective this is usually how it goes). When a cop pulls you over for speeding and tries to write you a ticket you don’t tell the cop no and punch him in the face and not expect him to react, you let him write you that ticket and then you defend yourself in court. But no, he decided to be a stupid kid about it. Tough luck but it’s also a dose of reality, you get what you asked for. I understand the concept behind trying to defend the rights of skateboarding (something you love to do). But there are the do’s and the don’ts in every situation. You never hit a cop, especially for something stupid like skateboarding. I’d like to see the full video because I am confident that it’s the basic rundown of the situation caused by a dumb kid. If it really was the cops fault it seems like it would be more highlighted than it is and would already be in courts. A 26 video does not do justice to determine who was right and wrong. The end.
